Summary

Working on a new museum installation in the Smithfield area of London. You will be installing the infrastructure pipework and setting up energy efficient plant rooms for this new exciting project.

Wage

£15,704 to £25,396.80, depending on your age

CoTrain will help with travel costs to and from work with a small bursary payment each week which the apprentice can claim via expenses. All travel costs to college can be claimed this way also.

Hours
Monday to Friday site hours may vary but typically 8.00am start and finishing at 5.00pm. You will usually get two 30-minute breaks during the day. Additional hours may be asked if the workload requires it but are not mandatory.

Work

What you'll do at work

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Comply with appropriate health and safety, risk and quality requirements,
  • Correctly select and safely use tools and equipment for the fabrication, assembly, installation and decommissioning of pipework components and systems,
  • Plan, organise and undertake the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance and decommissioning of pipework components and systems,
  • Read, interpret and apply engineering drawing information,
  • Shape pipework components using hand and power tools to cut, drill, shape and finish components to the required tolerance, specification and standard,
  • Assemble and install pipework using the appropriate methods, techniques and equipment in accordance with the specification including welded, threaded, bolted and clamped jointing solutions,
  • Ensure the integrity of joints in accordance with specifications, in line with specified quality procedures and to precise tolerances,
  • Undertake the testing and inspection of the fabricated and/or installed pipework using the appropriate techniques,
  • Work with others and contribute to effective working relationships within an Engineering Construction environment,
  • Apply techniques for the temporary or permanent removal of an engineering construction piping related system or component,
  • Communicate by keeping others informed about work plans or activities which may affect them and seek assistance from others without causing undue disruption to normal work activities.

Your training plan

Engineering Construction Pipefitter Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • The training will be conducted mainly in the work place with on line learning once a week to cover all theory based units
  • This role is very technical and will require a good level of maths and English

Semester try to keep your training as near to real life situations as possible so that your training should be easily transferrable to your work place helping you understand more clearly how on and off site training benefits your learning

Other requirements

This is a physical role and most of the work will be undertaken in semi-built properties so working in all weathers will happen from time to time. No day will be the same as you will be installing bespoke pipework for every project.
