Summary

We are seeking an apprentice to carry out the role of trainee Construction Planner/Scheduler. Working alongside one of our delivery teams, within our offices in Bury St Edmunds. The focus of the apprenticeship will be to successfully learn to produce and control a project program.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Every project large or small requires a program be it simple or complex. A project program is used to highlight issues, delays, opportunities, project acceleration and a whole host of other things most of which will be touched on under this course.
  • As an apprentice you will start with easy tasks, attending meetings and taking notes to learn how construction project programs are built up and what’s included.
  • As experience and training progresses you will have more responsibly, expected to input more and be able to work on your own initiative.
  • On top of the apprenticeship course, you will also be expected to attend software courses and attend site meetings.
  • The focus of the apprenticeship will be to give you the knowledge and experience to allow you to successfully produce and control a project program.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Apply and integrate appropriate mathematical and technical knowledge in the completion of built environment site and/or office processes to contribute to the coordination of construction projects.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures. Identify and document risks and hazards. Apply statutory and company environmental and safe working practices. Produce construction project risk assessment and method statements.
  • Communicate verbally to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques in line with company policies.
  • Interpret and abstract contract documentation to develop site solutions.
  • Apply digital construction processes to produce resource lists from tender and contract documentation.
  • The use of project tendering, measurement and costing systems to assist with the planning of schedules of work and to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on site.
  • Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with management requirements, assessing tasks, scheduling work, achieving deadlines, reviewing performance and keeping records of work undertaken.
  • Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes in order to implement site environmental solutions.
  • Use information technology. For example, for document creation, communication, and information management. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Plan and undertake continued professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence in their own area of practice.
  • Communicate in written form to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques and reporting mechanisms in line with company policies, using construction and built environment terminology.

Your training plan

  • The Apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in Construction Support Technician Level 3.
  • The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course.
  • There is a blended learning approach, apprentices training will be in the workplace, online and there may be occasional visits to the Training Provider. This will fall within your contracted working hours.

More training information

The apprentices training is 24 months, then 3 months gateway for the apprentice to complete their End Point Assesment.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Maths (grade C/4 or above)
  • Science (grade C/4 or above)

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

Design and Technology or Resistance Materials (grade C/4 or above)

Other requirements
