Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Administration
- Assist in maintaining employee records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Support the preparation of HR documents such as contracts, offer letters, and reference requests.
- Help maintain and update the HR information system
- Respond to queries from schools in relation to basic HR issues
2. Recruitment & Onboarding
- Post job adverts on job boards and trust website.
- Support in shortlisting candidates and scheduling interviews.
- Support with pre-employment checks and reviewing the Single Central Record
- Help with onboarding tasks including preparing induction packs, coordinating induction sessions, and new starter paperwork.
3. Employee Support
- Process changes such as promotions, transfers, leavers, etc.
- Maintain absence records and support sickness/leave tracking.
4. Training & Development
- Assist in coordinating internal and external training.
- Maintain training records and help evaluate learning effectiveness.
- Support compliance with mandatory training requirements.
5. HR Policies and Procedures
- Support communication of HR policies and ensure these are accessible to staff.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with Trust procedures.
6. Projects and Continuous Improvement
- Participate in HR improvement projects and initiatives.
- Assist in gathering data for reports and metrics to support HR planning and decision-making.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
- Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
- Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
- Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
- Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
- Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
- Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.
Your training plan
Training is completely remote. You will have full use of the computers in work to access the live online learning sessions via Zoom as well as the 1-2-1 Zoom sessions with the coach. Training is once every 2 weeks, and you will have time each week to complete the session's tasks.
More training information
City Skills are a highly reputable training provider achieving well above national average achiement rates for the training. You will have online live sessions every 2 weeks for 1.5hrs. You will also have 1-2-1 sessions with your coach once every 8 weeks. As well as being in a remote learning group for all your peers on the programme.
