We have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to join our team based at Southmead Hospital, who deliver centralised genomic testing for patients with cancer and rare disease. We are a large, well equipped, and friendly lab that values the experience new team members can bring to the role.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Receive and process samples
    Accurately prepare, maintain and document adequate supplies of reagents, consumables and plasticware
  • Prepare, extract, and store DNA and RNA from blood or other tissues
  • Participate in specimen reception/booking in and sample send away duties, including assisting with associated administrative and clerical duties in the laboratory
  • Prepare and process samples for cell culture
  • Process samples for FISH and G banding analysis

Your training plan

  • Healthcare Science Associate Level 4 (Higher national certificate) Apprenticeship Standard
  • Training will be delivered online and supported by training within the workplace
  • You wil have a weekly paid study day where apprenticeship learning and lessons will take place

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))
  • Maths (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))

A Level in:

  • Any (grade C or above)
