Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Sales Assistant at our car parts retail shop. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in automotive retail, combining hands-on learning with customer service and technical training.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assisting customers in-store and over the phone with enquiries and sales
  • Identifying the correct car parts and accessories for customers' vehicles
  • Processing orders, handling payments, and maintaining accurate sales records
  • Supporting with stock control and merchandising displays
  • Receiving and checking deliveries
  • Training on fitting vehicle parts such as batteries, bulbs, and wiper blades
  • Ensuring the shop is clean, safe, and welcoming for customers
  • Working as part of a team to meet sales targets and customer satisfaction goals

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

Your training plan

The successful candidate will be enrolled on a relevant apprenticeship programme through Wigan & Leigh College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification in Customer Service.

On-the-job training will be provided in:

  • Product knowledge (car parts and accessories
  • Sales and customer service techniques
  • Basic vehicle part fitting (batteries, bulbs, wipers)
  • Health and safety procedures
  • Use of in-house sales/order systems

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 3 or above)
  • Maths (grade 3 or above)

- Live within travelling distance of the employer. - No use of mobile phone during the working day. - Lifting of car batteries may be required. - Flexible to work weekends, one weekend every three weeks minimum.
