Summary

You will follow a structured training program, undertake on-the-job training led by experienced surveyors, giving the opportunity to earn whilst you learn. Working on land and measuring building surveying or utilities, CCTV and drainage projects, learning to conduct surveys on site using innovative technology and how to process data in the office.

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will work on exciting and varied topographical and measured building surveying projects, learning to conduct surveys on site using innovative technology and how to process data in the office. You will follow the company’s structured training program and undertake on-the-job training lead by experienced surveyors, giving you the unique opportunity to earn whilst you learn.

  • Work on site with experienced surveyors, conducting land & measured building surveys using innovative technology and processing data in the office
  • Undertake on-the-job training and earn whilst you learn
  • Set up surveying instruments, record data and provide logistical support to Surveyors
  • Undertake tasks within the office environment to assist with project completion e.g. processing surveying data, instrument checks, organising and loading equipment, data input
  • Maintain survey instruments to a high working standard and ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Attend and contribute effectively to training and development days to assist your progression through the program
  • Follow Survey Solutions health and safety policies and procedures and promote a high standard of health, safety and welfare in the workplace and to members of the public while onsite

Surveying technician (level 3)

Your training plan

You will attend Solihull College & University Centre (Solihull site) one day a week to be taught the BTEC Level 3 Surveying for the 24 months of learning. 

You will also be visited at your place of work every 6 – 8 weeks, for the Built Environment team to see you gather evidence to meet the Knowledge, Sills and Behaviours requirements and create a portfolio. 

Towards the end of your learning the Assessor/Coach will help you prepare for the R.I.C.S administered End Point assessment.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Minimum of 5 GCSE's including Maths & English (grade 4 or above)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

This will involve working outdoors in different weather conditions, traveling to different client sites, involves travelling and often early start times due to client requirements. Candidate must be over 18 due to regularly working overtime over 40 hours per week, must have a driving licence and be able to reliably commute to the office. Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle.

After this apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and internal training programme, the apprentice will be promoted to Survey Technician where they will be able to complete their own surveys independently and to a high standard. They will also apply for professional membership from the CICES, gaining Associate membership.
