Summary

As apprentice Power Press Operator you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the Power Press - using them to perform cutting, punching, forming and bending.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Running machines that create component parts by measuring the shape of the part and cutting it out of metal
  • Learning to set up and calibrate presses, loading raw materials and monitoring equipment during use
  • Learning how to read engineering drawings
  • Learning how to use measuring equipment (verniers/micometers/heights gauges etc)
  • Communicating with other team members to ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately

You will be required to attend Advance 1 Campus, Dudley College, 1 day per week in term time only.

  • You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace every 8 weeks to support you with your apprenticeship
  • Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship you will receive a Level 2 Engineering Operative qualification

About this company

Precision Chains are a well established engineering company based in the Dudley. We have been manufacturing conveyor and escalator chains since 1957 and most recently being bought out by John King Chains. Between the site in Dudley we employee in excess of 150 men and women manufacturing from base raw material to finished chain. As a group our turnover is £25m and our aspirations is to gown up to £80m within the next 10 years. Currently in Dudley we have 3 apprentices and would like to invest in a further 2 this year.
