Summary

Bechtel is offering an exciting HR Support Apprenticeship in our London office. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive and dynamic global business while studying for a Level 3 HR Support qualification. You’ll gain hands-on experience and valuable skills across core areas of HR, with the support of experienced professionals.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Provide administrative support across a range of HR functions, including documentation, data tracking, and compliance.
  • Support in maintaining accurate employee records, drafting contracts, and updating policy documents.
    Contribute to project work with the Talent Management team.
  • Monitor shared inboxes and provide first-line HR support and guidance.
  • Assist with producing reports and supporting documents.
  • Take on additional tasks and projects across the HR team as needed.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Your training plan

  • Attend all scheduled training sessions with the apprenticeship provider
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of evidence to show learning and development
  • Engage in regular reviews with your mentor and apprenticeship coach

The Apprentice will be enrolled on the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship delivered by CMS Vocational Training Ltd, an experienced provider with a strong track record of supporting HR apprentices

Over the past 5 years, CMS has achieved a pass rate of over 84% nationally and currently supports more than 50 active learners on this programme.

Training will be delivered through a blended model including:

  • Monthly virtual workshops
  • One-to-one coaching sessions
  • Online learning modules
  • Regular progress reviews with both the apprentice and line manager
  • Preparation and support for the End Point Assessment (EPA)
  • The apprentice will build core knowledge and practical skills in HR systems, processes, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and employee relations - alongside gaining confidence in communication, data handling, and professional HR practices.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSEs including English , Math (equivalent)) (grade 9–4 / A*–C)

A Level in:

3 A-Levels or equivalent experience. (grade (A–C))

Other in:

Right to work in the UK. (grade Right to work in the UK.)

After this apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship, the apprentice will have the foundational skills and experience to progress into a permanent role within the HR function - such as HR Administrator, HR Assistant, or Talent Coordinator.

This apprenticeship also opens the pathway to:

  • Further study at Level 5 HR Consultant/Partner Apprenticeship
  • Professional membership with the CIPD
    Long-term career progression in areas such as HR Operations, Talent Management, Employee Relations, or Learning and Development
    Apprentices who demonstrate strong performance and commitment may have the opportunity to grow within the organisation and take on more specialised or senior roles over time
