This apprenticeship is the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Intercounty Truck & Van Ltd in Milton Keynes, MK13 0AY. The right candidate will work alongside Daimler qualified Technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining HGVs.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Work alongside a qualified Technician to learn how to carry out repairs according to Daimler procedures in a safe and responsible manner
Be trained on how to service, maintain and repair Daimler vehicles which have the latest technology
Learn the fundamentals of heavy vehicle technologies – heavy vehicle chassis, engine, fuels, transmissions, hydraulic and air braking, electrical systems, and testing
Be taught how to setup accessories and specific equipment on the vehicles
Ensure appropriate work logs are kept for all vehicles, and all job cards and service sheets are completed in a timely manner
Keep high levels of morale and focus to ensure the highest possible levels of productive efficiency, quality of workmanship, and production finish in order to sustain growth in customer confidence in the service provided

What you'll learn

Course contents

Carry out the basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV
The ability to keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
The ability to service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards.
Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s.
Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual.
Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
Maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation.
To be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.

Your training plan

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to the Daimler Training Academy in Derby. There are a total of 16 x 1 week blocks over the 32 month programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.

You will also receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach to help you achieve:

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

English/Maths (grade A*-C 4-9)

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will achieve an automotive industry recognised qualification.
