Summary
Ofsted registered Specialist Outdoor Independent School age 14-19. Our aim is to bring the great outdoors into our everyday curriculum promoting engagement and purpose. At ADO River Valley, we support students who have SEMH & associated needs. We work specifically with YP who have a career aim/interest in one of our bespoke outdoor career pathways.

Apprentice salary will be dependent on applicant existing qualifications. Salary will increase upon permanent offer of contract following successful completion of apprenticeship Level 5 qualification.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- We are looking for an enthusiastic outdoor apprentice who is keen to gain experience in delivering high quality outdoor learning experiences to join our growing team and work with us to deliver part of the school’s outdoor education activities and curriculum we provide.
- Primary teaching subjects will be to teach Maths and English to our young people through Functional Skills Entry level to Level 2 in an innnovative way through using the vocational subjects we offer and the outdoors alongside traditional teaching methods.
- Plan, deliver, evaluate and assess lessons on Maths and English and support the teaching team with areas to embed these subjects in our other vocational subjects.
- Dependent on schedule and school on roll numbers you maybe required to support our wider vocational subjects and teaching.
- Education or group interventions according to curriculum/AQA/BTEC requirements. Complete BTEC and AQA assessments and paperwork to ensure students are gaining correct qualifications.
- Support ADO RV students with careers support if relevant to the subjects being taught.
- Lead at least one activity club session a week during school hours and support lunch cover as needed.

- Integrate subject and pedagogic research into teaching activity to enhance teaching and support changes of practice
- Identify, consider and take steps to minimise the impact of barriers to learning
- Contextualise English and mathematics in a way that promotes understanding of key topics
- Use a variety of teaching and assessment methods depending on the learning environment and learners’ needs
- Encourage learners to set challenging goals
- Promote understanding of equality and diversity and sustainable development
- Demonstrate through their teaching the wider context (policy, economic, societal, technological, legal, cultural and environmental) of the subject, recognising the implications for professional practice
- Design and use resources that are inclusive and add value to learners’ development

- Identify and set outcomes to enable each learner to achieve or exceed targets
- Provide ongoing learner feedback
- Use the results of initial and diagnostic assessment to plan learning and differentiated support at the start of and throughout the learners' journey

- Prepare learners for their transition through education, further training, and into employment
- Comply with internal and external regulations, legislation and guidance, such as: teaching, learning and assessment, recording, storing and sharing information relating to learners
- Adapt communication style, method, and terminology to reflect the needs of the audience including individual learners, colleagues, stakeholders
- Engage learners to establish standards of behaviour, mutual respect and safe working
- Challenge learners to address inappropriate behaviour or viewpoints
- Continually update and maintain their own knowledge and skills as a teaching professional and a subject specialist as part of managing their own continual professional development (CPD)
- Be proactive in seeking and responding to feedback from varied sources including learner voice, peers, colleagues, employers and stakeholders to improve own practice
- Manage workload through preparation and prioritisation, time management, and responsiveness to change
- Act within, the statutory frameworks which set out their professional duties and responsibilities
- Use innovative and up to date digital and online technologies in a way that is safe to improve teaching, learning and assessment

Other requirements
The applicant must be physically fit, willing to work outdoors throughout the year in all weathers with the appropriate clothing and footwear. Full safer recruitment will be required including but not limited to Enhanced DBS / Prohibited / Overseas checks.

Ofsted registered ‘Good’ Specialist Outdoor Independent School for KS4 to age 19. Received registration in Autumn 2022. Prior to registration we were an unregistered Alternative Provision which ADO setup in January 2018 supporting children and young people with SEMH needs in providing education in an outdoor therapeutic setting
