Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- To interact and engage with the children of the nursery, actively helping them to develop a curious and open approach to learning
- To display a willing and hands-on attitude when partaking in all duties related to the daily routines required of the room. Non-exhaustively, such duties include the provision of conscientious supervision of the children at all times, assistance in the children’s washing and changing, promotion of high levels of personal hygiene amongst adults and children, and the cleaning of both their own and of shared environments
- To be responsible for promoting best practice at all times
- To actively promote positive relationships between all adults and children of the Nursery
- To communicate clearly with all parents/carers, finding different ways to welcome and involve them as much as possible in their children’s care and education at Nursery
- To attend and partake fully in all parent and carer's evenings/sessions, working with the Room team to ensure that these meetings are a warm and welcoming forum in which the normal day-to-day practitioner to parent/carer bond is strengthened
- To attend training courses and effectively disseminate new knowledge to fellow team members
- To be responsible for assisting in the creation of a stimulating and attractive room environment
- To participate fully in the Nursery’s Key Worker system, ensuring each Key Child’s learning journey folder is up-to-date at all times and that input towards room planning is contributed
- To observe each child’s progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity
- To liaise with external agencies and professionals in order to practice a joined-up approach in ensuring we, as a setting, provide the very best possible for each of the children in our care.
