Summary
You will work under the supervision of our qualified commissioning engineers and client’s installation engineers to install, maintain, and test our smart lighting systems. You will gain hands-on experience while developing your technical knowledge and soft skills in line with the Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship standard.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
1. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including BS7671 Wiring Regulations and building code
- Follow best practices and risk assessments on-site (Duty 1)
2. Installation & Maintenance
- Assist in installing and testing electrical systems across various voltages (A C / D C), single-phase, and three-phase systems) (Duty 2)
- Support routine maintenance and fault-finding on existing smart lighting systems (Duty 3)
- Install both wired and wireless smart lighting systems tailored to client requirements (Duty 4)
3. Smart & Sustainable Technologies
- Learn to install and support special systems such as EV chargers, battery storage, PV panels, and backup generators (Duty 5)
- Get involved with energy-efficient lighting and IoT-enabled controls (Duty 11)
4. Specialist Installations
- Contribute to life safety systems and smart heating/cooling system wiring (Duties 6 & 7)
- Run and install cable infrastructure with attention to fire safety and compartment integrity (Duty 8)
- Assist in projects involving historic buildings or specialist settings (Duty 9)
5. Communication & Documentation
- Liaise effectively with team members, clients, and subcontractors while respecting data confidentiality (Duty 10)
- Complete documentation including installation certificates, test reports, and commissioning notes (Duty 13)
6. Project Workflow & Worksite Management
- Help prepare tools and materials, clean and restore work areas after job completion (Duty 12)
- Support in planning workflows and managing daily tasks to ensure efficiency (Duty 14)
7. Skills Development
Continuously improve your workshop and on-site skills, using a range of tools and technology to meet modern standards (Duty 15)

What you'll learn

- Maintain the safety of self and others by applying statutory health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations when conducting electrical work.
- Comply with all relevant legislation including environmental, regulations, codes of practice and other relevant information and guidance when planning and performing electrical work in industrial, commercial, and residential environments.
- Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE) that should be used when undertaking electrical work in industrial, commercial, and residential environments.
- Carry out work in a tidy and safe manner, including restoration of the work area on completion of work.
- Use verbal and written communication techniques suitable for the context, adapting style and use of terminology to suit the audience. Uses industry terminology.
- Apply customer service principles and techniques to deliver customer or client service in industrial, commercial and communal residential environments.
- Apply relevant legislation; Building Regulations; industry guidance notes; relevant codes of practice, the requirements of the current edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and other relevant standards while carrying out work.
- Understand and apply the practices and procedures for planning and preparing to maintain electrotechnical systems and equipment.
- Apply and use necessary mathematical and scientific techniques, formulae, and calculations that underpin an electrician’s work.
- Use a range of tools, materials, equipment, and components, including prefabricated, relevant to performing electrical work in industrial, commercial and residential environments.
- Design, plan, set up, and install electrical and related electronic systems including terminating and connecting cables in electrical wiring systems, installations, and equipment in commercial, industrial, and residential installations.
- Inspect and test new and where applicable existing electrical Installations in industrial, commercial and residential environments using test equipment.
- Apply diagnostic and problem-solving techniques to identify, assess and resolve electrical faults in industrial, commercial and residential environments.
- Install electrical and electronic equipment and components, including traditional and novel technologies such as connections for EV charge points, battery storage, solar and thermal panels, heating and cooling systems.
- Maintain electrical and electronic equipment and components, including traditional and novel technologies such as connections for EV charge points, battery storage, solar and thermal panels, heating and cooling systems.
- Carry out and manage own work ensuring work is compliant to the standards required of an electrician working in industrial, commercial, and residential environments.
- Record work including the completion and maintenance of work documentation, recording of test results and preparation of appropriate certification.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade Grade 4/C or equivalent)

Other requirements
You will not be placed at one set address. Instead, throughout your apprenticeship, you will work at various client’s sites in Central London. Some of our projects include Google Head Office (London), 40 Leadenhall St, Holborn Viaduct, Blue Fin Building, Berkley Square, 120 Kings Road, Woolgate Exchange, Willis Tower Watson and HS2 You will need to live within a commutable distance of London. Prolojik will pay for your travel costs. You will work on construction sites for new and refurb buildings and will be required to • lift and carry around a 10 kg backpack daily • commute daily on the tubes/trains • stand for several hours at a time • be at work from 8am to 4pm four days a week • attend college one day a week Start dates are subject to change dependent on course dates and finding the right candidate.

After this apprenticeship
After the successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will start on level 1 of our grading system. Based on your hard work, there is the opportunity to advance up 6 levels and thereafter become a Team Leader.
