Summary

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Quantity Surveying Apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career in the industry while working towards a recognised qualification, gaining hands-on experience across various projects and assisting with the commercial and financial management of construction works.

Wage

£14,526.20 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents
  • Assist in the measurement and valuation of works on-site
  • Help manage subcontractor accounts, including payments and variations
  • Collect and analyse data for cost reporting and forecasting
  • Assist with procurement processes and contract administration
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Attend site visits, meetings, and training as required

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Your training plan

  • You will be pursuing a Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard in Quantity Surveying, through Weston College
  • As part of this program, you will attend Weston College as instructed.
  • An assessor will conduct on-site observations to evaluate your progress, as well as supporting you in college throughout your apprenticeship
  • At the conclusion of your program, your qualification will be assessed through an End Point Assessment

  • Measuring and valuing building work in accordance with industry standards
  • Preparing budgets, estimates, and cost reports
  • Assisting with procurement and tendering processes

  • Using digital tools and software (such as Excel, Bluebeam, or CostX) for cost analysis and reporting
  • Understanding construction contracts, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborating with clients, contractors, and design teams
  • Supporting risk, value, and change management practices

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 3 Other GCSEs (grade 4/C+)
  • English (grade 4/C+)
  • Maths (grade 4/C+)
