Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Our role as maintenance engineers on site is to ensure that the machinery and facilities are kept in good working order by efficiently responding to breakdowns using appropriate fault-finding techniques and completing the planned maintenance schedule within appropriate time frames.

The role also entails working on projects to help improve the business as a whole and bring new ideas and innovation to the company. This will often involve liaising with colleagues at various levels within the company to better understand what improvements can be made. It is our job to ensure that our consumables and spare parts stock remains at an acceptable level and kept in a tidy and organised state. We are responsible for maintaining good practices and food compliance standards, including management of chemicals, hygiene, food safety etc.

Once fully trained, your key responsibilities would be

  • Responding to breakdowns
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance
  • Carrying out electrical and mechanical work
  • Maintaining the factory site, including fixed wiring, plumbing, offices, canteen, pallet racking, freezer doors, fire doors, manual handling equipment etc.
  • Assisting with project work
  • Liaising with management and production staff to plan work
  • Keeping stock up to date and ordering parts when necessary
  • Adhering to all health and safety, food safety, and other relevant policies and procedures
