Summary
As a Trainee Accountant Apprentice, you will provide support to both internal staff and external clients, working with our team at the St Osyth and Thorpe offices. Assisting in the day-to-day financial activities, including but not limited to data entry, month-end VAT Returns and management accounts and year-end financial accounts and tax returns.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Day to day role responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with financial and management accounts preparation for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies
- Assisting with managing client expectations and deadlines
- Assisting with the preparation of personal and business tax returns
- Carrying out bookkeeping activities, including journal postings and ledger reconciliations
- Processing client records accurately using Xero, Dext, and other accountancy software
- Preparation of VAT returns and management accounts
- Assisting with general administrative duties, including meeting and greeting clients, filing, answering the telephone, and supporting the team to meet deadlines as required

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan
- The apprentice will be working towards the Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship standard including the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
- Classroom attendance at Colchester Institute (Colchester Campus) every other week
