Allerton Steel Ltd are specialists in structural and mechanical fabrication We occupy a modern workshop and office facility with over 6,950 sq m (75,000 sq ft) capacity. They are looking for an apprentice Metal Fabricator to join our team. You will learn by our team of highly skilled Welders whilst completing an apprenticeship qualification.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Primary Job Duties
- Understand plans and requirements for each task.
- Cut and generally prepare required metal/shapes and weld according to structure plans.
- Carry out skilled fabrication (new or replacement) using a variety of processes.
- Inspection, diagnosing problems and carry out appropriate testing.
- Inspect work and fill/repair as necessary.
- Assemble component parts using appropriate hand/small power tools.
- Identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with working practices and health and safety.
- Clean and maintain all equipment and tools and maintain a clean working area.
- Carry out planned tasks in accordance with contract requirements.
- Organise all supplies (materials, tools and equipment) required, liaising with appropriate parties.
- Carry out tasks to meet applicable safety standards, targets, criteria and deadlines and to maximise productivity and profitability.
- Immediately report problems/failures that may impact on the organisation and/or its clients/customers to Supervisors or management.
- Adhere to all organisation policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety and all related legal/statutory regulations, policies and procedures, professional duties, responsibilities, and obligations.
- Set an example for team members of commitment, application of skills, work ethics and habits and personal character.

What you'll learn

- Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
- Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
- Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
- Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
- Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
- Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
- Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.

- Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity.
- Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment.
- Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements.

GCSE in:
