Summary
Do you feel like you’ve got what it takes to excel in customer service? We’re looking for an apprentice to join our fantastic Pet Helpline team. You’ll need to be a team player, enthusiastic and passionate about helping pets. As an apprentice you’ll gain on-the-job training and support alongside a structured training programme.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- You’ll be part of a dedicated team that is the first point of contact for Woodgreen customers, and your interactions will include phone calls, digital and written communication.
- No one day will be the same, although you can expect to give a professional and friendly service every day. As an apprentice, you’ll spend time learning the ropes. Then as your training progresses, you’ll learn how to assess and respond to the needs of our customers and their pets, whilst providing advice, guidance, and support.
- Showing compassion and empathy will be crucial. You may have to deal with some challenging situations, but you’ll be supported all the way until you feel confident.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
- Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
- Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate patience and calmness.
- Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
- Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
- Maintain informative communication during service recovery.
Your training plan
- At the end of this apprenticeship programme the successful candidate will be able to achieve the L2 Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship.
- Time each week will be provided to complete training directly related to the Pet Helpline Apprentice role as well as the work required for the apprenticeship programme itself.
- Monthly sessions held online are available to support with the knowledge elements of the apprenticeship programme.

Our Pet Helpline takes a wide variety of calls from people seeking support with their pets. In some cases, these calls may be emotionally challenging, requiring a non-judgmental and patient approach.
