Summary
Our Apprentice Vehicle Technician is currently undergoing structured training that combines workshop experience with formal classroom learning. In this role, they assist our qualified technicians with routine vehicle servicing and repair work, while gaining a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.

What you'll do at work
Apprentice Vehicle Technician – Key Duties:
- Assisting with Vehicle Servicing:
- Helping qualified technicians with routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tyre checks.
- Carrying Out Basic Repairs:
- Supporting repairs on brakes, exhausts, steering, suspension, and other mechanical components under supervision.
- Diagnosing Faults:
- Learning how to use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Using Tools and Equipment:
- Safely handling hand tools, lifting equipment, and electronic diagnostic devices.
- Workshop Support:
- Keeping the work area clean and organized, disposing of waste properly, and following health and safety procedures.
- Learning and Development:
- Attending off-the-job training or college as part of the apprenticeship program to build theoretical knowledge
- Completing coursework, assessments, and recording progress in a logbook or training portfolio.
- Customer Service Support (Occasionally):
- Observing or assisting with customer interactions, such as explaining repairs or booking services.
- Following Instructions:
- Listening to and carrying out tasks assigned by supervisors or senior technicians accurately and responsibly.
- Inspecting Vehicles:
- Conducting basic vehicle checks and identifying any obvious issues to report to a supervisor.
- Adhering to Safety Standards:
- Following workshop safety rules, wearing appropriate PPE, and learning safe working practices.
These duties evolve over time as the apprentice gains more skills and confidence.

- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
- Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
- Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
- Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
- Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
- Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
- Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
- Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
- Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
- Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
- Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
- Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
- Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Your training plan
This apprenticeship is 1 day per week day release to Macclesfield College. Working towards a Level 3 Motor vehicle service and maintenance technician - light vehicle apprenticeship standard.

GCSE in:
