Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that deals with a huge range of community safety issues including ASB, Serious Organised Crime, and youth-related ASB. You will collaborate with partners to reduce ASB & crime and be involved in projects such as diverting young people away from criminal activity and keep them safe.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Respond to reports of community safety on a daily basis
  • Provide crime figures on a regular basis to senior management and councillors.
  • Attend the monthly Joint Action Groups and CHARMM meetings (the problem solving groups)
  • Use problem solving techniques to respond to ASB case reviews
  • Assist in delivering the objectives set out in the Community Safety Action Plan
  • Make safeguarding referrals for our most vulnerable
  • Develop relationships with partner agencies
  • Review the council’s approach to public space CCTV

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Respond effectively and appropriately to reports. Analyse reports of ASB/community safety, identifying priorities and what the next appropriate steps are. Analyse and risk-assess all reports of ASB and community safety issues.
  • Provide a professional and timely response to customer enquiries. Manage expectations and keep the customer informed of progress. Identify potential safeguarding needs of young and vulnerable people.
  • Communicate with customers and stakeholders using a range of methods including face-to-face, telephone, email, letters, reports responding to the needs of a diverse group.
  • Make justifiable and appropriate decisions on the information available.
  • Plan and prioritise work effectively using a range of organisational tools to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines are met.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and customers to achieve specific targets and outcomes. Comply with court directions and ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Investigate reports of ASB/community safety thoroughly and systematically to understand and analyse underlying issues. Obtaining appropriate evidence.
  • Plan investigations into cases thoroughly and methodically.
  • Interview all parties involved in a case using effective investigative and interview techniques.
  • Understand and gather relevant information and using the full range of tools, powers and support available to resolve ASB/community safety issues.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriately-detailed records and information.
  • Effectively challenge, influence and negotiate with customers, partners and stakeholders to achieve outcomes and resolutions.
  • Prepare a case file for referral to solicitors or for legal proceedings.
  • Effectively present a case and evidence for a review panel or in legal proceedings.

Your training plan

  • Training is delivered remotely via online classroom sessions with a tutor. 
  • The sessions are delivered to cohorts of no more than 10.
  • There are around 2 classroom sessions a month . The calendar is set in advance so learners are aware of the timetable.

Other in:

There will be occasional working outdoors in terms of visiting locations with partners where ASB is prevalent. Have been a UK resident for the last 3 years Holds full driving UK licence
