The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities. Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist in drafting job descriptions for various College roles.
  • Prepare offer letters and employment contracts.
  • Create internal communications using Mailchimp to promote well-being awareness days.
  • Support CPD Co-ordinator with staff training enrolments and records.
  • Support the HR Co-ordinator with the onboarding process for new starters including requesting and tracking references, right to work documents, and DBS certificates.
  • Providing admin support in the recruitment of staff. This involves sending out interview invites, booking rooms, confirming attendance and ensuring they are distributed appropriately to the recruiting manager.
  • To set up and maintain filing systems both manual and computer based as required.
  • To assist in the maintenance and updating of the Human Resources database as required.
  • To have a ‘can-do’, positive, customer focused approach to all tasks.
  • To deal with incoming communications (e.g. telephone, email) as appropriate.
  • To assist in the provision and administration of HR events, projects and initiatives as required.
  • To carry out other administrative duties as required
  • To participate in training to successfully complete the apprenticeship programme
  • To undertake a range of tasks suited to the current level of training and development
  • To understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • To understand and comply with Heart of Worcestershire College policies and procedures

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable them to carry out the duties of the job description.
  • To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
  • To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by their work.
  • To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
  • To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Your training plan

Majority of the training will be on site at our Redditch Campus, which is the main place of work.

Day release to HoW College in Worcester and work based training. Please note that the day release takes place on an evening 6 - 9 (day to be confirmed).

GCSE in:

Other requirements

Please note that although the position is based predominantly in Redditch; the day release takes place at our Worcester Campus in the evening (6pm to 9pm). Transport connections between Worcester and Redditch is limited. All successful applicants will be required to complete and pay for a Disclosure & Barring Service check. The costs of this check will be deducted from the applicants first salary payment from the College. The College adheres to the DBS Code of Practice and has policies covering the Recruitment of Ex-Offenders and the Secure Storage, Handling, Use, Retention and Disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure Information.
