Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- As an Apprentice Teaching Assistant, no two days are ever the same
- You will work closely with class teachers and support staff to help provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment
- Throughout the week, you will: Support individual pupils or small groups with their learning, helping them to access the curriculum and make progress
- Assist with the preparation of classroom resources and activities, ensuring lessons run smoothly and pupils are engaged
- Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing, supporting pupils’ social and emotional development in line with school policies
- Help supervise break and lunchtime routines, encouraging safe and positive play
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including school events and enrichment opportunities
- This hands-on role will provide you with a deep understanding of school life and a solid foundation for a future career in education

- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan
- An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation
- At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying
More training information
- You will work towards the completion of a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship level 3
- Functional Skills in English and maths if required
Training will be delivered face to face, online and through webinars - The school will provide in-house training

GCSE in:
