Wage

£12,955.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The post requires a well motivated apprentice who is enthusiastic, patient and calm. The successful candidate will need to be able to work closely with the class teacher and as part of a wider team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent communicator
  • Work consistently well independently or as part of a team
  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning
  • Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Develop positive behaviour management strategies
  • Be creative and play an active role in building a safe and happy learning environment with the child’s well-being and progress at heart

  • Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard
    Behaviours, Skills & Knowledge
  • Functional Skills in maths and English at level 2 (if not already exempt through prior qualifications)
  • You will have regular visits at the workplace from a designated assessor to observe your progress and competence in the role you are carrying out
  • Training will be one day a month at Foulston Park

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4-9 (A*-C))
  • Math (grade 4-9 (A*-C))
