Summary
Year 1 of the apprenticeship will be based full time at the Stocksbridge training centre. Students need to ensure they are able to commute to the training facility. As part of your training, you will complete a number of placements within different departments, gain lots of practical experience, have the opportunity to work with different people.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The apprentice will be required to:
- Understand and become competent in using various health, safety, and environmental systems in place, to comply with internal and external requirements
- Progress knowledge learnt from college studies to advance from simple fault resolution to work on complex systems
- Use a variety of tools to diagnose faults on anything from 24v control to HV power systems up to 33kv
- Understand and develop knowledge on a wide range of electrical equipment from High voltage power systems and transformers, DC and AC motors to control and instrumentation systems such as PLCs, SCADA’s and variable speed drives
- Develop an understanding of the role and importance of the Engineering department within the organisation, and its relationship with customers and their requirements
- Develop an understanding of the operation of the plant and the production processes within the organisation, and the role of the Engineering department in developing new and existing processes
- Contribute to the continuous improvement process within the Engineering department and the wider organisation
- Use computer systems effectively to record Engineering activities as required
- Work within the Engineering department as directed, to build knowledge and experience of modern planned maintenance techniques, fault diagnosis/repair, fault analysis and project and development work
- Any other duties as reasonably requested
