Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Enviro Landscape Group are a growing Grounds Maintenance and Arboriculture contractor, working across Bristol and the South West. Our mobile teams maintain green spaces across the region and beyond. We offer year round grounds maintenance services, adapting our focus based on the needs of each season and location, and respond quickly to emergency needs across our sites.

We have a positive and welcoming team and are looking for candidates who will fit into an environment where individuals encourage and support each other. An enthusiastic interest in the work we do is much more important than demonstrable experience or knowledge.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work:

Maintain and improve the appearance of a wide variety of public and communal green spaces - lawns, hedges, flower beds, woodland pathways and nature reserves
Use and maintain a variety of machinery, including lawnmowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers and more
Prepare, plant and care for newly planted areas such as shrubs, trees and new turf
Maintain grass, hedges and flower beds
Identify common plants and how to care for them

What you'll learn

Course contents

(Core) Apply health and safety processes and procedures including risk assessments and or construction design management (CDM), manual handling, legislative requirements and organisational policies. Follow safe systems of work and safety information in line with employer requirements or site context (for example clearing their route before transporting materials).
(Core) Apply environmental mitigation measures including storage and disposal of waste, for example sorting materials for recycling or composting, acting in compliance with legal requirements, organisational policies and pollution controls.
(Core) Select, undertake a pre start check, set up, clean, store and safely operate tools, equipment and machinery (including pedestrian controlled and handheld) in line with current legislation and business policies.
(Core) Communicate with technical (for example supervisors or managers) and non-technical audiences (for example clients or the public) using language appropriate to the audience.
(Core) Identify plants commonly grown in the UK by scientific names including genus species and or cultivar.
(Core) Maintain the correct phytosanitary and bio-security procedures for the site, in accordance with legal requirements.

Other requirements This apprenticeship will involve working outdoors in all weathers. The work we conduct is varied but includes manual labour and all employees need to be physically fit and prepared to work on their feet all day.

About this company

Enviro has experienced organic growth from 2013 to the present. Alex started the company after gardening since 13. Hannah joined the company shortly after, covering all areas of business development and administration. Currently managing over 175 sites, with numbers continuing to rise. First full-time operative hired in 2013. Daily deployment of 30 team members across 13 vans. Our motivated and hardworking team are our most valuable asset.
