Summary
We can offer: Highly supportive working environment, an induction period with training and support, enthusiastic and well behaved pupils. There are 3 classes of 30 in our Reception and there is a separate EYFS area to the rest of the school, including a playground. There is also an SEND room that caters for children with high needs/autism.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Under the guidance of class teachers, provide specialist learning support to individuals, small groups, or children with additional needs who would benefit from focused intervention work to support vocabulary building, language and communication etc.
- Assist with the assessment and planning of next steps for children in the wider curriculum to ensure any gaps in learning are swiftly closed
- Liaise with class teachers about the required provision that would be need to support the needs of individuals and groups of pupils
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement
- Be responsive to coaching to ensure the best practice to get the best results for every child
- Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives
- Contribute to behaviour management within the school, use the school’s behaviour approach as part of the small group and 1:1 process to ensure continuity of approach with the teacher and school policy
- Support other Teaching Assistants where appropriate, with developing quality interactions in continuous provision and implementing purposeful play opportunities in the classroom and outdoor areas
- Take part in coaching and regular CPD to ensure up to date with changes in the EYFS curriculum, particularly focusing on quality adult interactions and learning through play
- Take part in and help to organise parent cafes and parent events
- Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures, e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Supervise pupils on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, parents, carers or relevant external agencies
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings as required
- Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise, and use them to advise and support others

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
- Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
- Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
- Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
- Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
- Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
- Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
- Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
- Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
- Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
- Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
- Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.
- Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.
- Create inclusive, child-centred, dynamic, innovative, and evolving physical environments both indoors and outdoors.

Your training plan
The majority of the learning will occur within the workplace, with 1 day per month mandatory college attendance for assessor led workshops
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English Literature and/or Language (grade C/4 or above)
- Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)
