Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Apprentice Wireless Technology Technician. You'll learn how to program, service and install all types of wireless technology equipment; radio communications, microwave, CCTV and data tracking products, as well as gaining flexible and valuable skill sets within the IT and Telecom fields.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
The apprentice may start at any time prior to the starting date. The apprentice will learn and undertake the following:
- Operating, programming and servicing all types of radio communications and repeater systems
- Configuring and servicing CCTV cameras, wireless links and other hardware
- Assisting with the testing, repairing and maintenance of electronic systems
- Installing and uninstalling equipment in vehicles, heavy mobile plant, machinery and office environments
- Adhering to safe working practices, health and safety
- Liaising with other members of your team effectively
- Working with electrical wiring, cutting tools, multimeters and soldering electronic components
- Using power tools, lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, working at heights, Mobile Elevated Working Platforms
- File management, completing forms, documenting procedures
- Using a range of computer software

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Operate the planning process including selection of equipment.
- Select a location as part the planning process.
- Install or support installation of equipment.
- Install, or support the installation, positioning equipment according to manufacturer's specifications, design detail and perform administrative tasks including installation reports and test results.
- Identify the causes of issues relating to frequency interference and other noise sources.
- Prioritise, plan and organise work activity using a methodical approach.
- Select the required frequency for a given radio path through the use of software application, manual calculations or system planning tools.
- Access and use the test systems.
- Report faults and use the required escalation process.
- Collate and input fault data and statements into the fault management system.
- Rectify faults within own area or escalate as necessary.
- Utilise software monitoring tools, user information or data gathered from testing to modify a radio network or link to overcome communication issues.
- Configure and maintain a network supporting the use of a Radio Frequency RF system.
- Gather network performance information and user insight through feedback or user experience.
- Identify procedures to enhance and improve system performance.
- Analyse data, draw conclusions and understand organisation impacts.
- Apply organisational security polices.
- Access sites according to required procedure.
- Create a written work plan and communicate plan to team members.
- Use customer feedback to process, prioritise and resolve issues.
- Work in agile, multi-disciplinary delivery teams, taking a flexible, collaborative and pragmatic approach to delivering tasks.
- Review own development needs. Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.

Training schedule
- Functional Skills in English and Maths if required
- You will complete an online portfolio during work hours
- As a result you will achieve a Radio Network Technician Level 3 qualification
- All on/off the job training to be completed within the workplace
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
BTEC or equivalent in:

Other requirements
Once trained, you’ll be expected to travel to customer sites across the South West with other team members to service, install and test equipment. Such jobs may require early starts or late finishes by up to several hours.
