Summary

As a Trainee Project Manager, the successful candidate will be part of the UK’s leading architectural glass specialist. The Trainee Project Manager will work alongside our experienced team whilst undertaking formal qualifications in construction management.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Trainee Project Manager will work under the guidance of senior colleagues and learn to manage and deliver successful construction projects from tender to completion, whilst undertaking formal qualifications in Construction Management.

The Trainee Project Manager will assist and learn the following tasks during their training programme:

  • Successful planning, set-up and execution of the project
  • Developing the project programme and tracking key milestones as the project progresses
  •  Understanding Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the site construction activities
  • Reviewing the work being undertaken on site and producing project progress reports
  •  Participating in both internal and external project meetings
  • Organising and managing the project quality assurance records for the construction and handover phases of the project
  • Understanding the project environmental goals (BREEAM, LEED, SKA, etc.) and ensuring compliance
  • In conjunction with the commercial team, determine the project procurement strategy, produce sub-contractor labour/supplier enquiries and assist with monthly financial reporting

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Be able to set and review objectives, identify resources and their limitations and plan activities and work methods to ensure project completion on time. 
  • Be able to identify and manage risks of health, safety and welfare in line with legislation, hazards and safe systems of work.
  • Be able to identify the standards required by clients and other stakeholders and implement effective procedures for managing, recording and improving quality.
  • Be able to manage construction activities in a way that contributes to sustainable development and implements best practice.
  • Be able to manage legal and contractual matters relating to the site and work within commercial and legal constraints to ensure effective project outcomes.
  • Be able to investigate problems, causes and effects and determine solutions.
  • Be able to identify, obtain and process information required to manage projects.
  • Be able to manage risk and plan for its mitigation to minimise its impact.
  • Be able to manage and appraise team members and specialist contractors, build teams, advise on development and resolve conflicts to ensure effective teamwork.
  • Be able to identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative solutions.
  • Be able to effectively manage and supervise specialist contractors and operatives during the construction phase.
  • Be able to identify and rectify common defects in construction activities.

Your training plan

During the study period, it is expected that the role holder attends college/university one day per week. The location of the place of learning to be agreed with the successful candidate.

GCSE in:

including Maths and English (grade A*- C/9 -4)
