Summary

This vacancy is for an Apprentice Electrical Fitter based in Lancashire. Bobst vacuum metalliser machines are assembled, fitted, tested then disassembled in Heywood before being shipped to our customers worldwide.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Apprentice Electrical Fitter will work with the team of highly skilled Electrical Fitters who produce these high-quality machines. Once full qualified apprentices will be required to travel on a worldwide basis to assist in the installation of company machinery.

Main Responsibilities

  • To strictly adhere to all Health & Safety regulations, including attending mandatory training courses, to ensure no possibility of endangering yourself or your colleagues
  • Day or block release for your college course is mandatory and monitored by both your manager and your tutor
  • You are required to successfully complete your course and produce certification for your personnel file
  • If you require additional study time to successfully complete the course, unless otherwise specifically agreed with the Production Manager, this should not infringe on your normal working hours

As an Apprentice Electrical Fitter, you are required to perform your duties in a professional manner, carry out all instructions from your supervisor under full or minimum supervision.

Training will be given, in addition to your standard college course, in all necessary equipment handling, to enable you to complete the following day to day tasks:

  • Assembly, disassembly, and despatch of machines.
  • Manual Handling
  • Working at height
  • Use of basic hand and power tools

Shadowing, and assisting fully qualified Electrical Fitters as directed while demonstrating a willingness to learn and commitment to always working safely.

Working on small, medium, and large sub-assembly under the supervision of senior Electrical Fitters, displaying a strong work ethic and desire to improve your skills.

  • Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
  • Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
  • Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
  • Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
  • Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
  • Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
  • Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
  • Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
  • Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
  • Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
  • Reporting work outcomes or issues.
  • Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
  • Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
  • Operating within limits of responsibility.
  • Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 2 Other Subjects (grade 4/C or above)
  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
