Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Job duties include:

Core Finance Processes: Ownership of core transactional processes including:

  • Weekly and period end journal postings.
  • Bill of Materials management.
  • Accounting for customer bonuses and discounts.
  • Management of customer pricing.

Reporting and Analysis: Deliver routine reporting and provide insightful analysis supporting:

  • Promotional investment.
  • Capital investment and appraisal.
  • Variance analysis.
  • NPD evaluation.

Balance Sheet Management: Understanding and ownership balance sheet reconciliations.

Controls and Compliance: Ensure that appropriate financial controls are followed and developed as appropriate, including:

  • Promotions spend processes.
  • Support for internal and external audits.
  • Maintenance of the Controls Matrix.

Business Partnering: Builds great relationships across the business, turns data into insight and brings the numbers to life for the key stakeholder.

  • Influence the impact of business decisions on relevant and affected communities based on an appreciation of different organisations and the environments in which they operate.
  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner.  Adapt communications to suit different  situations, individuals or teams.
  • Identify ethical dilemmas, understand the implications and behave appropriately. Understand their legal responsibilities, both within the letter and the spirit of the law, as well as be aware of the procedures for reporting concerns over potentially unethical activities.
  • Take ownership of allocated projects and effectively manage their own time and the time of others.  Demonstrate good project management skills to deliver high quality work within the appropriate timeline. Act as a role model and motivate others to deliver results.
  • Evaluate information quickly and draw accurate conclusions. Assess a problem from multiple angles  to ensure all relevant issues are considered. Gather the appropriate facts and evidence in order to make decisions effectively.

Your training plan

Accounting And Taxation Professional Apprenticeship Level 7. If you’re looking to develop your accountancy skills to lead finance departments or provide management accounting consultancy, CIMA is your ticket. CIMA is split into Certificate, a standalone ‘beginner’ qualification, and Professional, which is split into three levels: Operational, Management, and Strategic. The Certificate in Business Accounting is your starting point if you're new to accountancy. You'll learn the fundamentals of business economics, financial accounting, management accounting, and ethical considerations of commercial activity. Operational teaches you about organisational management, costs and analysis used in production, and financial reporting and taxation. Management equips you with the skills to perform advanced management accounting and advanced financial reporting tasks. Strategic develops your leadership and strategic management abilities, and teaches you about risk management and financial strategy.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Basic Maths (grade 9/A* - 4/C)
  • Standard English (grade 9/A* - 4/C)

Other in:

  • Degree (grade Any)
