Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring Teaching Apprentice to provide support for children and teachers. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience of working in a primary school alongside teachers with a view to becoming a qualified teacher.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Work with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff
  • Establish positive relationships with pupils supported
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher
  • Support pupils with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills
  • Support the use of ICT in the classroom and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and help keep pupils on task
  • To respect confidentiality at all times
  • Participate in evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

  • Candidates will undertake the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard
  • This includes 1 day per week tuition at college in Chelmsford

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

Maths and English (grade 4-9)

Desirable qualifications

Other in:

Maths and English Functional Skills (grade Level 2)
