Plumbing Apprenticeship level 2 (Southampton)

Summary

We require a Plumbing apprentice to work with the Plumbing contractor for one of our client projects in Southampton's City Centre. At CoTrain we employ and mentor the apprentice and place them with our construction partners and colleges to gain the correct experience and skills to complete their qualifications.

Wage

£15,311.40 to £24,761.88, depending on your age

National Minimum Wage

Salary is based on the NMW or NLW for your age group. A weekly travel bursary is also available up to the value of £25.

Plumbing and domestic heating technician (level 3)

Hours

Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 5.00pm. A lunch break of 1 hour each day.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

Fitting toilets, baths, showers, sinks, washing machines and dishwashers
Supporting with Installing central heating systems
Setting up rainwater harvesters and lead soakers
Cutting and joining pipes and fittings
Some working at heights or in cramped conditions
Working on Commercial and residential properties

Identify and document hazards for the plumbing and domestic heating systems work. Apply control measures.
Carry out commission and handover procedures and techniques on plumbing and domestic heating systems (cold water, hot water, central heating, sanitary appliances, and rainwater).
Install, test, and commission, electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems.
Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on the non-electrical components of plumbing and domestic heating systems.
Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems including industry safe isolation procedures.
Decommission plumbing and domestic heating systems.

More training information

You will attend one of the South Hampshire College Group campuses, Fareham, Southampton or Eastleigh
College training will start in September 2025 but is only 20% of your training
You will start working on site in July/August as 80% of your training will be in the work-place

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

5 GCSE's including English and Maths (grade 4/C or above)

Plumbing is a physical and technical role which needs a good level of physical fitness and attention to detail. It will involve working in all weather conditions.
