Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
A fantastic training opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Chef to work as part of the kitchen team at The Swan at Forton.
The Swan has a regularly changing fresh food menu and a good selection of steaks and grills. Our range includes a carvery, traditional favourites as well as selection of a la carte dishes.
Duties will include:
- Preparing dishes from the menu selections
- Quality and stock checks
- Assisting the Head Chef with the daily tasks of the kitchen
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Requirements and prospects
Someone who can take instruction
Excellent timekeeping and attendance
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work within a team, but has the initiative to work unsupervised
- Level headed and ability to work under pressure
Good understanding of numeracy and literacy.GCSE qualifications at grade C or above in English and maths or the ability to work towards Level 1 Functional Skills.
There is an opportunity of further training and full time employment upon completion of the Apprenticeship.

Level 2 Professional Cookery Apprenticeship to include:
- Level 2 NVQ Diploama in Professional Cookery (QCF)
- Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles

- Level 2 Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Functional Skills in maths and English Level 1 (if applicable)

As this is a role within a busy kitchen environment, the successful candidates must expect to work a variety of shift patterns including weekends.
Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
