The restaurant and takeaway specialise in serving high quality traditional fish and chip 7 days a week.

You'll be joining an award winning team with over 50 years experience.

The Fish Fryer will work in a team in one of our state of the art branches with lots of prospects to gain skills and knowledge as part of their fish and shellfish intermediate apprenticeship.

As a Fish Fryer you will be able to take in deliveries of fish and shellfish from suppliers, prepare the fish and help to supply prepared items for the customers.

You will be fully trained in all aspects of your job role and there will be some flexibility within your apprenticeship to tailor your programme. You will work closely with the (manager/mentor of the business) and other employees.

As part of an intermediate apprenticeship you will also achieve qualifications in English and maths.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Previous experience in Fish frying, Fast food or Catering is required.
  • The ability to communicate well with different sectors of the public.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team. 
  • Has the desire and potential to acquire a new set of skills and develop within the company.

  • Clean, tidy and hygienic.

  • Prepared to handle and work with raw fish and shellfish.

  • No formal qualifications required.

Future prospects

  • Complete an Intermediate Fish and Shellfish Apprenticeship, possibly leading to an Advanced Apprenticeship (management level) at a later date. Individual qualification in food safety.
  • The Apprenticeship will provide some flexibility and an opportunity to undertake some specialist unit if you have a particular interest to explore.
  • Opportunities may arise in the future to take on a management role within the business or even to run your own business.

Things to consider

The successful candidate will be required to achieve a level of skill in the preparation of fish and shellfish. All Fish Fryers are expected to handle wet fish, clean as they go and maintain food safety and maintain the highest levels of quality at all times. It will be hot and a fast paced environment. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
