Duties will include:

  • Shovelling out troughs,
  • Calf rearing and suckling,
  • Scraping out using small tractor,
  • Dusting up cubicles,
  • Bedding straw pens,
  • Checking and feeding grazing stock,
  • Cleaning and maintaining milking equipment,
  • Assist with the milking of cows,
  • Learning about cattle health and management.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Being able to drive is essential as tractor work is involved in the day to day running of the farm, also our location means this vacancy will suit someone with their own transport.
  • Experience of stock handling desirable but not essential.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Quick learner.

Future prospects

Long term employment is available for the right candidate.  Our last DART apprentice has been with us for 5 years.

Things to consider

The working days and hours given are only a guideline, must be flexible with regard to this.

We are not on any bus routes so own transport is vital.

We provide meals, drinks and snacks to all our employees.

We are a family run Dairy Farm.  We farm approx. 350 acres and milk around 160 cows twice a day.  We rear our own young stock and have a total of approx. 460 cattle on the farm from birth to milk cow.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour (From October 1st 2016 this will be increasing by 3% to £3.40 per hour).
