    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A great opportunity has arisen to join a well established restaurant in London SW1 as an Apprentice Kitchen Assistant. You would be training for your Level 2 Qualification in Professional Cookery. Working alongside a Head Chef and his team you will learn all about life in a commercial kitchen.


Your Role:

As part of your apprenticeship you will be expanding your knowledge of cookery.
  • Helping the Head Chef develop menus for the restaurant 
  • Helping out with stock count 
  • Creating and making dishes.
  •  Adhering to food and hygiene regulations, it will be expected of you to clean and maintain health and safety regulations through the cleaning of the kitchen to keep up a high standard of cleanliness. 

Recommendations:

It is recommended that you have a positive and bright attitude that displays a "can do" spirit. It is also advisable to have a keen interest in working in the catering sector. It is important that you are able to cope with the strains and challenges that are presented to you and work well as an individual and as part of a team in order to tackle these challenges.

Qualifications required

Other information

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour from October 1st 2015. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
