Working as part of a hardworking and highly motivated team you will be producing food encompassing many locally sourced produce for the Queens Head. Duties include:

  • Food preparation including chopping, slicing and dicing of ingredients.
  • Cleaning and preparing kitchen.
  • Producing starters.
  • Producing main courses.
  • Producing desserts.
  • Producing menus.
  • Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing and peeling fresh vegetables and fruit.
  • Weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.
  • Cooking sauces.
  • Preparing and cooking meat, poultry and fish.
  • Presenting food in accordance to kitchen standards.
  • Setting up and maintaining a clean an tidy work station.
  • Follow correct hygiene procedures.
  • Ensuring your uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional at all times.

No previous work experience needed but must be enthusiastic and motivated to learn.

Qualifications required

GCSE A-C Maths & English (or equivalents), desired but not essential.

If successful progression to a Commis chef.

Things to consider

Working in a kitchen you must be able to handle the pressure of a fast paced environment and also be able to follow direction well.

This is a hazardous environment, using sharp knives and working with hot objects/ equipment, therefore you must be able to concentrate.

You will also be on the move for long periods of time in a warm environment.

For the right person, this will be a rewarding job

You must be able to travel to and from Prestwold Hall on a daily basis

Training provider

A Hospitality and Catering Apprenticeship includes:

  • An appropriate Hospitality and Catering NVQ at Level 2 (see attached Summary)
  • Communication Functional Skill at Level 1
  • Application of Number at Level 1
  • An appropriate Technical Certificate in Hospitality and catering at Level 2. (see attached Summary)
  • Technical Certificates focus on the knowledge and understanding that underpins the NVQ, and will consist mainly of work based delivery with some attendance in college.
  • Apprentices will also learn about Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR).

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
