Things to consider

Please bear in mind that working within the Hair and Beauty industry you are required to work long hours and especially Hairdressing you will be active for long periods of time.

You are more than likely going to be required to work Saturdays as this is a busy day for salons

Training provider

Training will be provided in the workplace or once a week in Oracle Training Centre (this is dependant on your salon owner) If it is decided you are in the workplace a trainer assessor will be visiting the salon for one to one sessions

You will be assessed on your competence in both practical and Theory

You will gain Hairdressing Level 2 NVQ Qualification, alongside this you will be required to do Functional Skills in Maths and English (dependant on any prior learning) Level will be determined on GCSE results or equivalent too.
We also include Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) and Personal listening and thinking skills (PLTS) within the qualification.

Working Week:
This will be discussed with you upon interview/trial in the salon. However you will be expected to do a minimum of 30 hours and maximum of 40 hours to be eligible to carry out the apprenticeship. 5 of those hours will be off the job training.

Funding arrangements:
Training on the Apprenticeship programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by the government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age isn’t always fully funded this will be discussed on your interview.

Apprenticeship Minimum Wage:
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices is £3.30 an hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the NMW appropriate to their age applies. The wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
