This is an exciting opportunity to achieve a customer service or business administration apprenticeship qualification whilst working within a busy GP Surgery.

Main purpose of the post:

  • To assist patients in obtaining medical care appropriate to their needs in a willing and helpful manner
  • To work with doctors, support staff and other primary healthcare staff, as a team, in helping to achieve a good standard of services for our patients
  • To work and behave in a way that supports the practice’s ethos “to treat others how we ourselves would wish to be treated and to share our learning with others to sustain good quality patient care”

Duties include:

  • Dealing with patients face to face and via the telephone
  • Booking surgery appointments for patients with the appropriate health care professional, according to their need
  • Raising and distributing prescriptions
  • Administrative duties relating to the maintenance of patient records
  • General housekeeping
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times

To be working in a fast paced environment so being organised is paramount. You will be supported throughout your employ through your apprentice provider.

Training to be Provided City & Guilds

You will be working towards an Intermediate/Advanced Apprenticeship in Business & Administration, which will include: 

  • Level 2/3 City & Guilds Diploma in Business & Administration
  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in Maths, English & ICT
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills
  • Employer Rights & Responsibilities

Future prospects

Successful completion of this apprenticeship would give you the necessary skills to undertake the role of a receptionist/administrator with a GP surgery or similar setting

Things to consider

This is a very busy environment where you will need to deal with people who are ill, worried and sometimes upset and confused. You need to be able to remain calm and behave in a professional manner at all times.

The surgery is on a main bus route and within walking distance of the Metrolink. Parking is available onsite.

From October 1st 2015 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training
