Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As an apprentice welder/fabricator, you'll be initially responsible for the following (but not limited to):
- Manufacture and repair of cores and castings
- Grinding, burning and gouging of steel
- Working to quality standards required for the components
- Finishing castings to customer’s requirements
- Undertaking final inspections of finished components
- Maintaining a clean, organised and productive work area
- Comply to relevant environmental and safety standards
You’ll develop your skills under the supervision of expert mentors and tradesmen at Furniss and White, learning a variety of duties by working around the site and supporting the manufacturing process. You’ll be taught and mentored to achieve your full potential, encouraged to progress and become another qualified member of the team.

Your training plan
The successful candidate will continue their studies with apprenticeship specialists, RNN Group at their North Notts (Worksop) Campus on a day release format, giving you the training and support you need to become an all-rounded and successful Welder/Fabricator.
The Apprentice Standard you will be studying is Plate Welder – Level 3.

Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
