What you will do in your working day

Maintaining HR Records

  • Updating and maintaining colleagues’ HR files and HR systems (GP teamnet, HR master spreadsheet, HR folders on shared drive) to ensure they are accurate
  • Monitor and report sickness absence levels and help coordinate formal absence review process with the relevant line manager (with assistance from HR Manager as necessary)
  • Processing starters/leavers
  • Processing employee changes e.g, change of address, salary, working patterns, job titles. Ensure HR records are updated and prepare letters as and when necessary
  • Maintaining accurate record of annual leave entitlement for all employees and partners


  • Preparing, coordinating and issuing new starter paperwork and ensuring all documents and pre-employment checks (DBS, right to work, work references, health questionnaire) have been completed in a timely manner, alerting the HR Manager of any issues or causes for concern
  • Coordinating and facilitating the recruitment process e.g downloading and forwarding candidate CVs from job boards to hiring managers, arranging interviews and corresponding with candidates to invite to interview or reject from process as necessary


Adhoc HR Admin

  • Issuing of Specsavers eyecare vouchers when requested and updating internal records
  • HR housekeeping – ensure colleagues' electronic HR files and other general HR files & databases are accurate and kept up to date.
  • Preparing and issuing HR related letters to colleagues as directed by HR Manager
  • Photocopying and scanning documents (e.g. ID and new starter forms, flexible working request applications)
  • Processing leavers – e.g. downloading leavers' record from GP teamnet and saving to HR file; prepare letter acknowledging resignation; moving leaver’s HR file from current employee folder to ex-employee folder; update master HR spreadsheet

The training you will be getting

             HR Support Level 3

  • Handling day-to-day queries and providing human resources advice ranging from recruitment through to retirement
  • City of Bristol College (College Green)
  • Day Release (evening)

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Permanent employment in HR role.
