What you will do in your working day

The purpose of this role is to work under the supervision of the Operations Co-ordinator, administering both planned and reactive asbestos works. You will be responsible for scheduling asbestos projects, effectively deploying site staff day-to-day, dealing with client enquiries, booking appointments, and providing quotations for works in conjunction with the Commercial team. In addition, the role will involve day-to-day liaison with the report production and laboratory teams across the UK, to ensure that reports are delivered to clients in a timely manner.

With the aim to develop and have more responsibility during your apprenticeship, the role will include some of the following areas:

  • Booking in Works - Production of Project Packs ensuring that Site Staff have all pertinent information, this will include liaising with Clients to ensure their needs are met and all internal departments are aware of Project milestones.
  • Quotations - Responsible for ensuring all quotations are either sent or responded to within a timely manner. Liaise with clients to glean an appropriate amount of information regarding their request and send it to the Operations Manager for review.  For larger or more complex requests clarity should be sought from the Commercial Manager or Operations Managers.
  • Diary Management - Ensure that each project is added to the diary in a timely manner.
  • Purchase Orders - Generate Purchase Orders for any project associated costs, as and when required. E.g. LARC costs.
  • Company Procedures/UKAS/HSE - You must assist with all required elements for compliance with Company Procedures/UKAS/HSE.  To comply with all procedures forming the Company Quality Control System including Regulations, HSE/UKAS guidance and in-house procedures documented within this Quality Manual.
  • Attend training courses as and when required.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Collaboration and Cooperation - Always look to collaborate and cooperate with other staff members and help wherever possible/is required regardless of the task or what is listed in your job description.
  • Staff Development - All staff are required to actively look to assist to help develop junior members and members of other teams.  Areas such as positivity, and learning other elements of roles and areas within Acorn are to be encouraged across all levels within the company. 

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the organisation which is relevant to your post within the company to meet the overall business objectives. Full training will be given.

The training you will be getting

As a business administration apprentice, you will complete the following qualifications as part of your apprenticeship:

  • Level 3 Business Administrator Standard Apprenticeship
  • Level 2 Functional Skills maths and English if equivalents are not already achieved
  • You will also develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work within an office environment

This apprenticeship is delivered in the workplace and 20% of your working time will be dedicated towards training and learning new skills. You will be allocated a tutor who will provide you with personal support and assessment at pre-arranged times. Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio.
