What you will do in your working day
- Raising of sub-contracts, payment certificates and collateral warranties
- Approving invoices and assisting with interim payment assessment
- Data analysis (daily dairies, signing in records, PPE logging)
- Managing plant and labour budgets against forecasted costs
- Develop relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors to continuously improve the customer experience and support future repeat and negotiated business
- Support with product selection, specifications and assist with value engineering exercises
- Develop initial project budget and agree detailed cost plan with the Project Surveyor for agreement with the external professional team
- Assist in managing all cost control aspects of the project(s), ensuring the use of appropriate cost, reporting systems
- Advising clients on procurement routes available
- Prepare and monitor Bid Package Tender Schedule
- Attend meetings with the design team and with works contractors
- Involvement with assessment of subcontract valuations and payment of supply chain
- Assist with instructing accounts to invoice clients and pay subcontractors and suppliers
- Support with project close out financial account and retention releases
- Assist with preparation of monthly Cost & Value Reconciliation (CVR)
- Gain a full understanding of contractual conditions and ISG contractual liabilities

The following qualifications will be gained:
- A BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying or equivalent Quantity Surveying Level 6 Diploma that is approved by the industry’s recognised professional bodies and meets the educational requirements for the professional bodies’ full membership or chartered status
- Industry certificates in Site Safety Plus Site Managers’ Safety Training Scheme and Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme which are required for safe operations in the workplace
- English and maths; apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Your role will be to assist with the management of procurement, financial and legal aspects of a construction project, successfully transferring risk from main contract to subcontract and ensuring optimum margin is ascertained and maintained throughout the build.
Over the course of the programme, you will be given more and more responsibilities eventually having responsibility for individuals sections or packages.
