What you will do in your working day

As an employer, we are offering an apprenticeship with us to help you gain vast knowledge and experience within the engineering industry

General duties include:

  • Fitting & Assembly
  • CAD
  • Working within an engineering environment, preparing to work on a varied amount of machinery
  • Act within the limits of your own competence and within agreed ways of working, following the relevant local and national standards, policies and protocols used in the workplace
  • Monitor the health and well-being of individuals in your care
  • Assist individuals to maximise their independence
  • Contribute to the daily running and administration of an effective and efficient service or team
  • Use communication methods and techniques to overcome barriers and meet individuals’ wishes, preferences and needs
  • Promote the health and well-being of individuals
  • Record, report and store information related to individuals
  • Maintain own and others’ safety at work
  • Maintain and further develop your own skills and knowledge
  • Contribute to the quality of services by participating in improvement activities

The training you will be getting

Training will be at Doncaster College where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer.  

Day release.

You will undertake the Machining Technician standard.

Machining technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

Mandatory qualifications to include ONE of the following:

EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
Level: 3

EAL L3 Extended diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge) minimum 720GLH.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Machining) (Development Technical Knowledge)
Level: 3

City and Guilds Machining technician (1273)

You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or Maths if needed.

You will undertake both on and off-the-job training by a team of industry-qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge and experience that will help you become an Engineering Operative of the future!

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to a higher-level apprenticeship or full-time employment for the right candidate.

About the employer

Arrow Enginering is an engineering service founded and managed by Derek Brindley in January 1998. Derek built the company in the light of 30 years experience gained from Sabre Tools, his family business, in which Derek was the Works Manager. He then set up Arrow Engineering. Derek also spent several years as a leading Grand Prix Motorcycle Racer. He retired from Motorcycle racing at the pinnacle of his career to concentrate on building his own, new, dynamic company. We have concentrated during the last ten years on motivating, diversifying and improving our capacity and systems in order to provide outstanding service.
