What you will do in your working day

You will be involved in day to day activities covering a multitude of Automation and Control & associated engineering activities and being trained and assessed on Automation & Control industry standard modules. Day to day contact will be the with the Regional Process Control & Automation Manager & Site Engineering manager and other maintenance / electrical engineering colleagues.

Example of activities:

  • Learning from electrical engineers, Process control Engineers, this will be electrical principals, circuit diagram interpretation, circuit design, electrical safety systems, control systems, plant automation, PLC fault finding and alteration, variable speed drives, installation safety standards.
  • Maintain a wide range of hardware and software found on today’s industrial networks and control systems including, but not limited to PLC's, Robots, Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, variable speed drives, soft-starters, energy monitoring equipment, instrumentation, safety systems.
  • To learn and follow integral health and safety processes and procedures, LOTO, risk assessment, Atex environments. With this knowledge you will be able to assess risks and negate them appropriately.
  • Work on a broader than usual array of engineering competencies and skills.

The training you will be getting

Full Automation and Control Engineering Level 4 Apprenticeship. 

1 day in college at Luckyn Lane, Basildon.

4 days with the employer.

Things to consider

It is essential that you have successfully passed an Engineering Level 3 qualification and that you have already gained engineering work experience. It is preferred that you have served at least three years in an Engineering Apprenticeship. We may consider someone with 3 A levels, including Math’s and a Science/Technology A level. If the apprentice does not drive, then there is an approximate 20 minute walk from Purfleet train station. There is also a requirement to travel to South Essex College too. There may be occasional requirements to work alongside key individuals at local other ADM locations to learn the activities of their role or a particular part of the plant. I.e. Erith, Kent and Tilbury, Essex in order to gain a broader knowledge of other sites. Once qualified, work on various ADM sites may be required.
