What you will do in your working day

  • Under direction, assist to provide technical support to the engineering team.

  • Assist in the preparation and/or checking of design calculations.

  • Assist in ensuring that all project related engineering tasks / activities are robustly planned in accordance with timescale and budget constraints.

  • Maintain compliance with client standards, specifications, CDM and relevant Health and Safety legislation including ensuring that accurate ‘as built’ drawings and health and safety file information is produced as appropriate and returned to customer via the approved means / processes.

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and documents in line with the business document control process and procedure.

  • Outline cost estimates.

  • Support specific business objectives, as required.   

The training you will be getting

  • You will be required to attend Sheffield Hallam University on block release for a total of 36 days per year
  • The degree award is BEng (Hons) Railway Engineering
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment.

As SPL Powerlines UK has a Principle Contractors License with Network Rail this can be done as a Tier1 supplier or as a sub-contractor being a part of large multiple discipline projects. SPL Powerlines UK also provides possession and isolation services. These services can be carried out as part of a project or just on its own.
