What you will do in your working day

  • You will begin by enhancing your CAD skills which are the basis of all the construction designs we provide.
  • You will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers to develop your knowledge of building engineering
  • You will translate civil engineers’ and architects’ designs into technical drawings, taking into account elements such as environmental features and utilities, making decisions and recommendations as to how these are dealt with
  • You will communicate with clients, suppliers and colleagues as part of this process

As your skills develop, you will then start to be involved in engineering design, working towards designing independently. You will be supported all along with on-the-job training and mentoring from our team of experienced engineers at our office in Coltishall, Norfolk.

  • BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering
  • accredited by the JBM
  • Successful apprentices will gain IEng status via the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • Delivered via a blended approach including online learning and block teaching at Anglia Ruskin's Chelmsford campus

Civil Engineering can offer a long, varied, fulfilling career. The industry is always changing and there are lots of skills to learn with new software and interacting with people on project teams.

Things to consider

You will be office- based, mainly working on CAD to start with. We would then expect you to start learning other design skills such as highways and sustainable drainage design as you progress. We use software such as: Autocad, Autocad Civil 3D, Causeway Flow, Causeway Live design and Infoworks ICM. We can only consider applicants who are based within easy commuting distance of our Coltishall office and have a permanent right to work in the UK.
