What you will do in your working day

  • Assist in the maintenance of our fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment within our service workshop.
  • Conduct MOT inspections and servicing of the van fleet to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, performing repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and organisation to uphold safety and efficiency standards.
  • Utilise diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and rectify vehicle faults.
  • Undertake welding and fabrication tasks as needed to support vehicle maintenance and repair efforts.

The training you will be getting

You will work towards a full Level 2 Autocare Technician standard. You will be released to college 1 day a week and all other training will take place at the employers premises.

20% of your normal working hours will be spend doing off-the-job training, which includes attending technical courses, workshops, and shadowing experienced technicians to enhance your skills and knowledge in vehicle adaptation and maintenance.

Apprentices must take the test for Level 2 English and maths prior to completing the apprenticeship. On completion of this Standard the Auto-care Technician will be eligible to apply for IMI membership as a Registered Young Professional or if they wish as an Associate Member. They would also gain entry onto the IMI Professional Register.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, there will be an opportunity to stay on in a full-time, permanent position.
