What you will do in your working day

We are looking to take on a full-time apprentice to assist with all aspects of our day-to-day work. We are ambitious and have plans to grow the business into a large-scale commercial and domestic grounds maintenance business, covering Derbyshire. Your role will be working with myself day to day going out to jobs servicing maintenance contracts and one-off jobs. The right person will play an important role in helping the business expand. In return you will be taught all aspects of gardening, grounds maintenance, and landscaping such as:

  • Lawncare
  • Hedges and shrubs
  • Garden and grounds maintenance
  • Waste removal and clearances
  • Tree work
  • Fencing
  • Aspects of landscaping

You will also be offered career progression or support in your future aspirations. There is also potential for overtime available.

The training you will be getting

The successful candidate upon completion of the apprenticeship will achieve a Level 2 qualification as a Horticulture Operative. This apprenticeship will be delivered in the workplace. 

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Depending on business growth, the role could lead to a full-time salaried role, with own vehicle, tools, and maintenance round.

Things to consider

-Driving license, or ability to get to employer address, and plans to obtain a driving license (i.e. currently doing lessons) Working outdoors in all conditions. You will be given guidance on appropriate clothing and helped to acquire the correct kit, such as waterproofs. -Physically demanding role. Most of the work we do is physically demanding. -Some days may involve cleaning and maintaining tools, or cleaning vehicles. Some tasks can be monotonous, such as hand weeding. We try to balance tasks out to add variety throughout the day. -May involve early morning, late evening, or weekend work. You will be given plenty of notice and compensated fairly.

About the employer

Bottle Brook Gardens Ltd, a professional Residential and Commercial Grounds Maintenance company based in Derbyshire. Services we provide include lawn care, hedges and shrubs, garden and grounds maintenance, waste removal and clearances, tree work, fencing, and some aspects of landscaping. Currently, the business is owner-operated by myself, with some part-time staff. We focus on working within the Amber Valley area and rural Derbyshire but occasionally will work further afield.
