What you will do in your working day

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Greet patients and visitors to the practice
  • Book in, amend and cancel patient appointment inline with practice appointments procedures ensuing optimum efficiency of the appointment system
  • Ensure that patients are effectively signposted into appropriate slots as per protocol and clinician specification
  • Answering incoming telephone calls, ensuring calls are documented and redirected accordingly
  • Signpost all requests appropriately and accurately in a time-managed manner
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits, assessing urgency in accordance with the practices protocols
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient and visitor requests accordingly
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensure procedures are completed
  • Registration of new patients onto the computer system
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same
  • Ensure correspondence, reports, results etc. are filed electronically in correct patient record
  • Ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy
  • Re-stocking of information leaflets/stationary ordering as appropriate
  • Undertake administration tasks as allocated on rota organised by Senior Receptionist
  • Check emails on a daily basis
  • Regularly check messages/notifications on SystmOne to check everything has been actioned
  • Action start and end of day procedures as directed by Senior Receptionist
  • As well as the reception team there is a need to work closely with GPs, nursing and office staff to ensure the smooth running of the practice, reporting any problems
  • Ensure up-to-date maintenance of both computerised and manual filing systems (i.e. patient notes)
  • Amalgamation of new patient records
  • Check all consulting rooms daily for scripts and any shredding waste
  • This job description is not exhaustive and may be adjusted periodically after review and consultation. You will also be expected to carry out any reasonable duties, which may be requested from time-to-time
  • Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures

The training you will be getting

  • NVQ L3 Business Administration.
  • Maths and English functional skills training if necessary, delivered online in 1 hour slots on a weekly basis
  • Dedicated Juniper skills coach for on-the-job training

About the employer

East Durham Medical Group work within Family Planning Care - doctors and nurses trained in family planning,inhouse Maternity Care - run by the district midwives at the Family Centre. Child Health Services - available from the health visitors. Immunisations - child vaccinations are given at 2,3 and 4 months to protect small babies from certain diseases. Clinics for these are held weekly with the nurse. Minor Operations - run by the doctor and nurse for the removal of cysts and lumps. Warts and verrucae are treated by freezing with liquid nitrogen.
