    Important: This position is a term-time only position so the salary is paid pro rata, therefore the actual wage is £7,996 per annum.

    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

What you will do in your working day

  • To provide support to the class teachers across a range of child-centred activities to promote child development and learning
  • Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management
  • Assit with the planning and preparation of activities
  • Participate in the preparation of the classroom
  • Monitor children's needs and report these to a designated person
  • Keep records as required by the school
  • Have familiarity with all EHCPs specific to the child
  • Assist in supervising pupil breaks and lunchtimes
  • Promote development and learning (physical, emotional, educational and social)
  • Foster growth, self-esteem and independence, observe and record development
  • Support those with special needs, including during community activities
  • Carry out reasonable daily care and hygiene duties and administer basic first aid
  • To undertake other duties at the direction of the Head Teacher or Senior Management Team
  • To attend Boston College as required and ensure completion of assignments and observations within agreed timeframes

The training you will be getting

  • You will attend Boston College for half a day a week, where your assessor will offer support and guidance to help you achieve the requirements of the qualifications and standards. You will spend four and a half days with your employer
  • On successful completion of the course, you will achieve a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • You could progress on to a career as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Higher Level Teaching Assistant
  • Progression to a Foundation degree such as Learning Support / SEND. Leading to Full degree e.g. BA Hons, Graduate Teacher Programme, Post Graduate Certificate in Education

Things to consider

Some pupils require full support and assistance for personal care and toileting, hygiene, mobility and feeding. A period of up to 10 days is advised as part of the application process. Some aspects of the work will bring staff into regular contact with children who have emotional and behavioural difficulties. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Due to high numbers of applications, we may close this vacancy sooner than the specified closing date, therefore early applications are encouraged to avoid disappointment.

Boston Endeavour Academy is a newly built special school for children aged 2 - 19 with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, located in the market town of Boston, Lincolnshire. It opened with 100 pupils in September 2021 building to 140 over the last few years. It has many state of the art facilities including therapy rooms, a hydrotherapy pool as well as specialist classrooms and a life-skills suite.
